ABOUT US
Thank you for visiting our website. Our organization, Wynne Friends of Animals, owns and operates,
The Wynne Animal Rescue Shelter. Our shelter is a true, in every sense of the word,
no kill, rehabilitative sanctuary, located in the northeast corner of Arkansas, just across the Mississippi River,
(approximately 45 minutes), west of Memphis, Tennessee.
We are a totally private shelter / sanctuary,
and not owned or operated, by any city, county, or state agency.
We are funded by adoption fees, charitable contributions, and funds from our
on site veterinary clinic, built and opened in 2011, to care for our animals.
AS OF THIS TIME OUR SHELTER IS ONLY OPEN TO THE 11 DOGS REMAINING, SINCE THE CITY
OF WYNNE PULLED OUR FUNDING IN OCTOBER, 2019. WE DO SAVE A FEW, WHEN MONEY IS AVAILABLE.
MONIES ARE NEEDED TO HELP TAKE CARE OF THESE DOGS, MAINTENANCE, UTILITIES, ETC .
We have been in operation since March 2007,
we have now placed dogs in 47 states, Canada, and Germany. We have been voted
The Best Shelter In Arkansas every year since our inception in 2007, and in The Petfinder Shelter Challenge voting,
have never placed out of the top 100 shelters in the nation,
with over 16,000 shelters in the voting. Our highest finish was 2009 when we finished 16th.
Producers from Animal Planet, and a film crew,
have visited our shelter, and spent an entire day filming and conducting interviews,
and when leaving, stated that our shelter was one of the cleanest, finest, best run shelters they have ever visited.
We have worked with "dogs labeled as aggressive", abused dogs, and a tremendous number of psychologically
normal dogs. We have a total commitment to each and every dog we accept.
Once a dog is accepted into our shelter, we place no time limit on the rehabilitation process,
and will not adopt any dog until we feel they are ready.
We try our best to operate on the premise that there is no such thing as an "unadoptable dog".
We house train, leash train, car train, and behavior train our dogs, and all training is
"POSITIVE", and fun for the dog. The longer a dog is with us, the more trained,
and what we call, "no maintenance" they become. Our goal for each and every dog is to instill complete
and total trust in humans.
Each and every one of our dogs is fully evaluated both socially and psychologically,
with humans, (both adults and children), cats, and other dogs.
This allows us to custom fit each dog to his adopter. Our goal "IS NOT" to find the best
dog for our adopter, but rather, to find the best adopter for our dog.
We try and fit each and every dog to his adopter by temperament, energy level, social skills, and
maintenance requirements.
All of our dogs sleep inside at night. Every kennel is sterilized daily, and our inside kennels
are kept at 70 degrees year round. All food and water bowls are washed daily in a dishwasher.
Dogs play outside all day, in large, fenced, exercise yards, covered
with 6 inches of pea gravel, and are walked, both on and off leash, spend one on one time with staff,
spend time in our front offices as greeters, take trips around town with employees,
and are loved, petted, and have human playtime daily. Every means is exhausted to try and
make our shelter environment as close to a home environment as possible.
Every dog adopted from our shelter is guaranteed healthy, fully vaccinated
(all shots up to date), is spay/neutered, and microchipped.
It is hoped that our adopters will incur no veterinary expenses for at least a year after adoption.
Should you decide to adopt from us, please do not be offended by some of our questions.
All questions are for two purposes, the first being,
to assure that our dog is going to a home in which he or she will be happy and thrive,
and the second, to assure that you as an adopter, are getting a dog that will be suitable to your family and lifestyle.
Also, please rest assured that any negatives or possible problems with the adoption will
be fully disclosed, discussed, and covered in detail prior to our adoption approval.
Once again, thank you for visiting our website, and please feel free to call, email,
or even better, come and visit our shelter.
We take great pride in what we do, are good at what we do,
and would love to help you find "the perfect dog" for your family.
